My wife gave me this $2 coin today because she thought it was shiny. Very considerate of her. I thanked her and was going to just take a quick cursory look at it when something seemed to stand out.

On the obverse side of the coin are what looks to be extra metal bulges raised. They all are lined up with the stamping of all the letters and symbols that are on the edge of the coin. here a few pictures I took with my digital microscope. Sorry for the light washing it out but I cannot adjust the lighting.

Here are the pictures:

Additionally, after looking at these pictures closer. Do I see doubling of the letters in the word REGINA? Also seems after closer inspection that some the so called raised area's are in fact divots. The leaf that is above the Queen's head has a corresponding raised spot on the obverse.

This is actually quite common on all new Toonies. I have not seenvery many that do not have these marks.

This is common on 2012 Toonies. There have been several threads about this already. It occurs where the letters on the outside of the rim were struck.

I can't tell based on the pictures if Regina is doubled.

First that I have noticed it. Oh well, thought I may have finally found that unique coin that I could brag about

Thanks for the response.
