That sounds like a pretty good price to me!

Assuming you are referring to this one http://colonialacres.com/products.p...=3360&ref=64Issue price was $300 and there is roughly $300 worth of gold in the coin (0.185 troy ounces). My records show Colonial had the coin for sale in Feb 2011 for $189 but they no longer have it in stock. There have been a couple sold on ebay in the past few months for about $300 so if you are buying it directly from the seller, you should be able to get it for less since he is saving the ebay fees. Just be careful that it's really the gold coin and not the similarly packaged gold plated coins which sells in the 25$ range. GL

Is there a visible difference between the true gold and plated coin?
This one is way to easy to scam by ICCSing a genuine and packing a plated with the genuine packaging (including COA). Scary.

Fortunately, yes. The gold coin has the words "22 K centre" and "centre 22 C" on the reverse. The proof does not. I don't have the proof version but would like to get one some day to see if there is any visible difference in just looking at the two. The gold version is very nice though.

The hue and reflectiveness is a bit different. Though not saying much, I can't tell the difference unless comparing side by side

The four gold toonies (1996, 1999, 2000, 2006) are the only toonies I am lacking in my collection.
The lack of differentiation between the gold ones and the regular proofs besides the markings (combined of course with the price!), are what keeps me from getting them.
I would go for the 2006 first though because of the reverse gold/silver combination.

It's a wonderful looking coin, and is very high on my "bucket list". I think the design is one of the nicest on a Canadian coin, and it looks stunning in 22k gold.

@canuck1us: I bet you don't have the test token Toonies from 2006 either. I didn't know they existed until a few days ago

Wouldn't the weight be different as well?
