Some members of the focus groups said the Vimy memorial looked disturbingly like New York's twin towers, brought down by terrorists in 2001.
Yeah, those focus groups are on the ball.

Dialog, I thought that weird too. They must have had some precognition in 1936 to build a monument that looks like the World Trade Center in 2001.

Well that's the last time we put any ethnicity in a positive light! But seriously, I'm looking at this image through a microscope and the woman looks Caucasian to me - I guess that's close enough to cause an uproar! Has anyone seen the back of a $20 bill? There's all kinds of indecencies going on there - just look for yourself. Perhaps we can replace the Queen (a non-Canadian) with David Suzuki (an actual Canadian).

I think the point is that when they originally showed design samples to people, they saw an Asian woman and were disturbed, so the Bank of Canada changed the design to make sure the woman would looked Caucasian. What I wonder is, how many of those focus group morons are of a pay grade to ever see a $100 bill?

After reading this post and the link my respect and admiration of Canada has dropped a few pegs. Canada welcomes immigrants with skills. But don't expect us to recognize that fact on our currency. Her Majesty would not think it quite proper. "It simply IS NOT DONE!"

stupidest thing we have done with our money yet. Are we really becoming THIS sensitive?
however, this is a plus for collectors, I'm looking for a crisp UNC $100 bill with the "asian" woman now

The queen has nothing against imigrants...she married one didn't she?
Seriously though I think they should have had the backbone to stick with their original choice, anyone who finds it offensive in some way that a different race is portrayed on the note is not really worth listening to. To most normal people this would be a non-issue.

Remember the ridicule the design of the 1975 $50.- bill received? Mackenzie King on one side and a horse's butt (actually several) on the other. We encourage immigrants to come to Canada from all over the world so why do these focus groups always have to be "politically correct"?

Well, DavidUK Being European royalty does make it a bit easier to digest. PC taken to extremes is not how normal people think. And the others, as you have said, are not worth listening to.

For what it's worth, Mark Carney has apologized: Quote:
Just to be absolutely clear, on behalf of the bank and personally, I apologize for the offense created by that sequence of events.

That's not the standard that Canadians expect of the bank. Steps have to be taken to ensure there's not a repetition.
