I have to agree with all of the posts about how great the Philly show was and also how great the CCF booth was. I really enjoyed my time at the show and meeting friends from our forum. Unfortunately I just received a phone call this morning about one possible problem that came out of the show. There are currently people who were at the Philly show finding out their credit card numbers were stolen. One person claims he never even used his card while in Philadelphia. The current theory is someone was going around the show with a card scanner stealing numbers while the card was still in a person's pocket.
So this is just a notice to check your credit card accounts periodically for the next few weeks. Hopefully none of us were hit. The booth was such a wonderful idea I would hate to see something negative come out of it.

We found a card under our table when we packed up that must have been droppped. The person used it at our table and must have dropped it before it got back in his wallet. Susan called the number on the back several times and couldn't get a single person on the phone at Bank of America that she could understand for days. Finally about 4 days later she got someone that she could make out "destroy it" so that's what she did.

My card was compromised the other day. When I called the credit card company they said that they just had a huge attack on a bunch of peoples cards. They said either some company(ies) were breached or they people had been saving the number up for a while and decided to try to use them.
On a side note, the only way they could steal your card out of your pocket is if your card has "PayPass" or "Blink" on it. That allows you to pay with out swiping because it has a short range wireless in it. But if you have a card with RFID, well, what do you expect? If you have one I would get a new one with out it.
Any way, I was not where near the Philly show but it happened to me and a lot of other people.

Happened to me yesterday, 8/17, my Chase credit card that I did not use at Philly, and had not used for a couple weeks. Starts with a small charge ($3.61) to see if it goes thru, then the fun begins. Perhaps just a coincidence in timing...

Quote: the only way they could steal your card out of your pocket is if your card has "PayPass" or "Blink" on it. yeah if you do have one of those cards with the icon that looks like a wifi symbol on the back you need to make a pouch out of aluminum foil to keep the card in, that will keep those types of scanners from getting your information

I got hit today - some bogus E D F energy company charge in GB. I was not at the show and it's not an RFID card. Also some minimal "test" charge from a travel agenct in CT, USA.

Mine was nabbed a couple weeks ago and I wasn't even at the show. I think some online retail database got hacked. My CC company called me right away with the suspicious charges and got it reversed and canceled immediately and got me a new card within a few days.
If it happens to you, be sure to contact one of the three credit reporting agencies (Equifax, Trans Union or Experion) and put a fraud watch on your account. For the next 90 days any new credit in your name will require they ask some extra questions to verify your identity. You just fill out a really simple online form, and whichever one you contact will automatically notify the others so that they'll all be watching.

I got a call from American Exp, about a $150 charge at someplace in Boston.
They thought is was suspicious.
It was, and it wasn't me.
I had to cancel the card.
Good service there

A year ago My wife had her card compromised: We are pretty sure it was compromised at the hotel she stayed at in manhatten.....We live in Europe. She had to use her card to book the room.......when she arrived in Manhatten she found an email from amex asking her to contact them....found out a couple of thousand Euro had been racked up suspiciously across the world had to cancel the card. The hotel wasn't helpful but the card is only used for business travel and hadn't been used in the 6 months before the travel. the coincidence between giving the card details over the phone to a hotel staff member and the misuse of the card was extremely suspicious, The HOtel did not investigate but AMEx took careful note.

Happened twice to me, once as I was naive enough to give my credit card number over my e-mail account to another dealer and then as I used a cheap flight-reservation system, which obviously did not had their security system at a current level. Both cases were resolved by MC/AMEX without any furhter complications.
