I remember this coin. Give me a few minutes; I have more light to shed on the matter.

Like I told you Dave, I shoot everything freehand (look at reverse). This is going to change real soon :-) The coin is more chocolate in hand too.

Great, honest coin. Did Rick give it a number? Is that a die dot on the headband? Looks extreme.

OK. Caveat: I shot this coin in the flip, under adverse lighting - the very brightly-lit bourse floor. Contrast and ultimate sharpness suffered as a result. Now, a couple of interesting details. The two dots below the upper lip are what had us considering the possibility of Snow-1b; the book lists the variety for a line in that location, but images were unclear so we had to think about it. A neat little feature on the reverse: It's definitely a positive on the coin, and seems integrated enough with the field to suggest it was on the die. Something struck through onto the die, maybe?

After looking at my guide, I would agree it isn't a S1b. Although the date looks as though it may fit the RPD of that series. Do you see doubling on the date?
SuperDave and Vermont neighbors?
edit: I meant RPD, not RPM.

I don't know what die variety it is, but that is a very nice problem-free 1871! Hard to find them that nice!
