I am a newbie. And I am cosidering doing something that let's say is a little risky for my experience level. I have an opportunity to buy some notes at what is a good price then I want to break them up and sell them. They have all been graded 62 or above by PCGS. What I want to know is how respected is PCGS grading for notes? If the grades are good then I am not worried about losing any meaningful amount of money and should make some.

From my understanding, PCGS and PMG are the top two TPG's within the currency world.

PCGS Currency is respected but dead slow... I know many who refuse to submit because the turn-around can be 3-4 months!

PCGS Currency - Whoa, slow, I did not know!

PMG - ?

I have heard/read the same about these two being the tops in their field in (U.S.) currency.

I have heard good things as far as PCGS grading standards. But I was shown some paperwork by a Currency Dealer at a recent Coin Show that showed it took a bit over SIX months to get his currency graded. That is an unacceptable time to have your inventory off of the selling floor. And while you can get it faster, the extra cost many times takes your profit margins down to zero.

Since yours have already been graded you should do fine.

I think if you use economy it is incredibly slow. I think a lot of dealers send in large economy bundles. But there are several levels of submission.

6 months is absurd but star is right depends on the service level. If you use the economy or bulk its basically as long as they feel like but the others have much faster turn around times according to their site.

I did call them and ask about times and at least regular is running much longer than post on the site. The only reason I know is I have some bills I want graded and was trying to decide who to join. I decided even with the extended turnaround time to go with PCGS.

Had a very interesting conversation with a PCGS grader at the National Money Show today. Also he told me they are now down to about 20-30 business days for regular processing.
