Does anyone know a good cleaner that will restore the shine to a couple of old, tarnished silver spoons that I found at a yard sale?

Yep, sure do. Try "Professional Tarnish Remover" by Sunshine Products, Everett, WA. Don't know if they are still in business because a 2-oz. tub of the stuff lasts a LONG time but I have used their product for years and it works really well. It's even biodegradable.

I use TARNEX on mine. No reason, it works well and all I have to do is soak a soft rag and wipe, then rinse off the TARNEX and buff with a clean cloth.

I have used TARNEX as well.
It STINKS but does the job very well. Rotten eggs
with unidentified sub-tones.
Re: rinsing
COLD water is the recommendation.

Yes, I have used Tarn-X as well but don't necessarily recommend it. The silver cleaner / polish I recommended works VERY well, is practically odorless, and is cheap.

A silvyt silver cloth would do it... and there are plenty of "silver creams" that are perfectly effective.

Silver oxidizes black but a little rub with a silvyt removes that and you will be surprised how it will shine again.

These clothes are what the jewellery trade uses mainly if they don't want to go over something with a rouge-wheel.

The creams you rub on leave for a bit and then rub off again... no need for rinsing...
