I recent got several coins from the Netherlands and Denmark that were minted during WWII and the metal is zinc. They are in mostly good condition but a couple have some white gunk or corrosion on them.

I have some Verdi-Care and was wondering if this would help the coins at all? Has anyone tried this?

I think that Verdi-Care may be a good choice, because it would be mild enough in it's action, however, zinc is a lot more reactive than copper, so you will have to watch what is going on very closely.

Remember, Verdi-Care was designed for copper and bronze coins.

Experiment with the lest valuable of your zinc coins first.

Be very careful with the storage environment with zinc coins.

I would most definitely wait until BadThad gives his opinion before doing anything with the zinc coins.

I do not think VC will help Zinc, but I could be wrong.

Zinc corrosion (zinc oxide) is nearly impossible to remove without damaging the surfaces. VC will not be effective at conserving such coins because it is very gentle. However, the ReAcT2â„¢ ingredient will stabilize the corrosion and stop it where it is.
