We had to go to the Tullamarine Airport yesterday, so I spent 3hrs stuck in the car on the way there and 3 hrs back. Plus a little driving around the city. 10hrs on the road. So I got to go to 1 coin shop :) (poor person got to be annoyed by me) The shop was called The Stamp and Coin Den Dandenong
Someone had said they were good for coins so we thought we would check them out. The shop was a good size and was nicely set out, we spent a few good minute looking in the window because the shop was locked up, and just as we were ready to go he turned up.
I of course went and turned the shop upside down for threepences, but they were overpriced for what I was wanting, and the shop didn't have a large selection, just one basic set in an push in album, and singles were 1933/34 overdates all priced at $135ea (way to expensive) and two 1917 die cracks for $35 ea once again too pricey for what they were.
But the shop did have a nice selection of misstrike or off centre coins; they were probably on the right price for them $25 - $135 depending on the coin. (The $25 one went to us)
The person we spoke to was nice and friendly, didn't get the name I assume it was the owner.
He had a fun sales technique or quirky answer "he he", every time I picked out a threepence or something nice and asked what's the best price you can do for it he would reply "aww your squeezing me" but he was happy to take $5 off anything.
Just as we were ready to go, I asked if they had any junk threepences as they only had coins they were good quality, the guy said they send all junk coins to be melted because they get good prices for silver, soooooooooooooooo sad. I would have paid more than spot for them.
So we ended up buying two 20c carded coins and an error florin :) When I get over travel sickness I will get the USB gizmo out and take pictures.

It can be a bit disheartening when everything is overpriced but it still sounds like you had a bit of fun. The miss struck florin for $25 sounds like a decent price. Looking forward to the pictures when you're up to it

Anyways what do you call this error, it says on the 2x2 "slightly raised rim" it has reeding on only half of the rim in the raised/ off centre bit.

Hmm, I didn't know Dandenong had a coin shop. I live close by so I'll have to pay it a visit. Bricks and morter stores prices are always going to be high because of their overheads. I guess we are spoilt these days being able to buy things over the internet

Its on the 2nd floor you take the escalator. They have a nice fishpond inside too near the entrance we parked in 1hr parking opposite the front door/ side door entrance Google'd it and we parked on "Walker St" The building has THE HUB written on it.
The main entrance must be on "Langhorne Street" ? but we totally missed that, we were freaked out by seeing a whole street section just for busses.
