Hi To all I am new to the site found this 1994 dollar with some strange marks on both sides all around the coin , can anyone offer any information as to what it may be or if I may have found a rare coin,

grab a lead pencil and draw a ring around the inside of the rim on another $1 coin for comparison

Sorry I am not familiar with what you mean I have placed a 10c piece over it and the border seems to fit into the outside edge or slot so to speak on both sides ...

It looks like it could be PMD to me caused by a coin rolling machine.

The 10 cent will all fit within the $1 circumference. In this case the coin you have pictured is not a mule. It will contribute nicely to a freshly made cup of coffee.

to CCF.

As erkle has said if you get a lead pencil and draw around another $1 coin you will notice it will look almost exactly the same. Your coin is unfortunately not a mule. These pencil marks are quite common on $1 coins. I have no idea what would motivate people to draw on them
