I was just searching ebay as I seem to spend much time doing. I narrowed my search firstly to ancients and then to silver and saw a coin I liked the look of. When I opened the link I saw in the description that it was reproduction (At the price it was maybe he was hoping someone would make the mistake of not reading that thoroughly) but it was also made of tin. I thought I would report that it is in the wrong section...but I see in the reporting process you cannot write, you can merely select from the options. So it's pointless to report this because they probably wouldn't spot what is wrong with the listing. Really buyers have to be careful it seems...I think they should have a seperate catagory for reproductions because obviously some sellers just list and hope for someone to make a mistake and with so many listings it probably isn't even worth making a report on any given one because there will be a thousand others just as bad.

If you report it using the CCF ebay reporting link you are able to describe the issue with the item.

Without using the special CCF link you are right the ability to report through the standard method is very limited and really doesn't cover many issues

Useful to know I can do it through the CCF...
I still think if they are going to allow people to sell reproductions these should be in a seperate section to avoid mistakes though.

They had a separate section for reproductions but everyone continued listing them in the regular sections (easier to snare the unwary that way.) They don't need a special section anymore because it is now against the rules to market copies or reproductions. Of course that hasn't stopped them from doing it.

ebay reporting is worthless anyway. I have tried reporting sellers that are trying to ship items internationally for $40 without tracking and only first class mail. ebay never does a thing about any reporting that people do.

They've nuked over 50 auctions for me in the last year. I have had only one report ever fail to get action, and that one is still under investigation. And my success pales by comparison to what scubu gets done.

Dave I think they respond to different peoples reports differently. If they know you or you make good reports a lot they seem to be a lot more likely to take action than if you rarely report. Which is understandable I'm sure theyre flooded with nonsense reporting from people trying to get rid of their competition

Many times they have sent an email explaining why they didn't cancel an auction I reported to them. Given the zillions of items on ebay at any given time, it would be impossible to police every item. Just my 2¢

But all anyone needs to get attention is to make a righteous report. Use the direct link from here, state the problem precisely in the first sentence, and then back it up with specific facts. I don't just say, "this is a fake," I also state the features which prove that true. ebay isn't in this alone. They have volunteer experts in numismatics to research claims.

I have reported reproductions to ebay both ways and have found they pay a lot more attention to my reports made through CCF but every now and then the report is ignored it seems.

I assume you're referring to listings like this one - a replica ancient coin being offered in ebay UK's "Ancients" section. In this particular case, the BIN price of 7 pounds ought to warn people that it's a replica, but finding a more deceptive example probably isn't too hard on any given day. Quote: They had a separate section for reproductions but everyone continued listing them in the regular sections (easier to snare the unwary that way.) They don't need a special section anymore because it is now against the rules to market copies or reproductions. Of course that hasn't stopped them from doing it. ebay America has banned the sale of reproductions. DavidUK is in Britain and ebay UK still has the "Coins - Novelty/Replica" category, and that is where British-based sellers of replicas ought to place their repro coins. They ought to make sure that they do not offer such replicas for sale "worldwide", because if its visible to buyers outside the UK, it's reportable to ebay America and the listing is likely to be pulled if reported. As for what to report it under using the standard "Report Item" link, you could try Copyright & Trademark / Counterfeit Item or Authenticity Disclaimer / Counterfeit, fake or replica items, but since listing replicas is legal on ebay UK and the listing states it fairly clearly (though not in the title), I doubt it would be acted on. For reporting a coin posted in the incorrect category, you're probably supposed to use Listing practices / Search and browse manipulation / Listing in an incorrect category. Unfortunately, the complaint reviewer may not realize it's supposed to be in the Replicas category.
