DVC => good one ... but no, I haven't bought one of each, "yet" ... Hey, I wonder if there is anything similar for the Greek-side of the ancient coin biz? (do you know of a rarity scale for Greeks?) Eng5858 => yah, I'm funny sometimes ... as soon as I typed-in those first top 5 Rulers, I knew that my OCD would kick-in and I'd end-up typing them all in!!

102 - Anastasius (317)
This is the highest rank I have now. Should be Anastasius I.

I cant believe it, but I'm beating you gil! 122 - Eudoxia.
Also, quick calculation, if 10,000 people buy a batch of 25 uncleaned coins, only 1 person can expect a eudoxia (it happens 0.01877%). This is, obviously, a much lower number than in practice because of the smaller number of emperors. I'm going to count them out so some proper statistics can be wrought.

Quote: Should be Anastasius I ... I fixed it ... Hey, although I usually work with quartz-crystal like accuracy, there may be a few more typos in the list (I did double-check the numbers, but still found an error in the total number of coins ... I'm claiming that their number is incorrect) ... NOTE => perhaps somebody should copy and paste this list somewhere, so you guys can go-back and refer to it every now and then ... ummm, is there "a place" on this CCF site where lists and things are kept for reference? => "or" you could man-up and buy the beautiful, but fairly expensive ERIC-II book?

Quote: => "or" you could man-up and buy the beautiful, but fairly expensive ERIC-II book? You can also purchase ERIC II in PDF form. There are several of them but still more affordable if owning large bulky books is not to your liking.

That single ERIC II book isn't near as expensive as the RIC volume set.

Quote: I cant believe it, but I'm beating you gil! 122 - Eudoxia. I haven't gotten around to getting a coin of her yet. Not to mention that I am still rather new to collecting ancient coins. This November is when I have one year of ancient coin collecting experience.

Quote: From a Total Sampling of 233,056 coins I do not have a copy of ERIC II, so I lack the context in which these statistics appear and am curious - what exactly is being "sampled"? Coin hoards? Coin dealer stocks? Museum collections? ebay? All of the above? And are the numbers of actual coins (thus giving some kind of rarity measurement) or of types/varieties? Quote: but when I summed-up their list, I only counted 225,049 coins? Assuming you've made no transcription errors and if the statistics come from hoard evidence or some other random accumulation of coins, then perhaps the "missing" 8,007 coins were unidentifiable as to emperor. As for the "rarest in my collection", I guess that would be Hanniballianus (137).
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

SAP => I'm currently at work so I can't check the book for their "sample method", but I know it included a few sources that you mentioned (sample was collected from e-bay, auction data, other) ... I will check it out later tonight
