I picked up a couple of Half Cents yesterday and wanted to see what the CCF thought of them.

Thanks for your comments!

Very nice looking coin.
I am no expert on early copper

What I see is Maybe a trace of wear on the hair curls (high point)
and the wreath looks a little flat at the top (reverse), not sure
if this is weak strike or slight wear.
From just the pictures (easier when coin is in hand) my first
impression, the coin is AU

I think it is graded AU-50. There appears to a bit of wear on the hair above the ear, face, and the wreath with hints of the original luster around the stars, in the hair, and around the wreath.

With the touch of wear on the high points and the hair/coronet, I would have to say XF45 but I wouldn't be surprised if it reached AU50 status. Very nice coin, great pickup!

Nice going CCF! However, I made a mistake and posted the wrong coin. The seller had two 1851 Half Cents in PCGS XF40, and the one below is the one that is that I bought. I chose the lower one here over the one in the OP because of the "spots" at 2 o'clock (behind the hair bun) and the rim about 8:30 on the obverse. The cut/scratch across the cheek did not help either.

But the one below should be the one I receive within the next few days. My apologies for the misrepresentation.

The Half Cent in the OP may still be available if you needed that spot filled.

oih82w8 the EF-40 you bought is a nice problem free coin. I still like the first one even with the fly specks as it has far less wear.

I will have to see what it looks like "in hand" and go from there. Thanks for your comments!
