mishap-coins Valued Member United States 344 Posts	Posted 03/09/2007 12:17 pm I am curious about this sellers Mis-struck Quarters. Seems to me they both have a line in them where it appears an instrument was used to stop the coins clad from sliding off while it was heated to a certain temperature. I know I have put a quarter in a campfire and once it reached a certain temp you could watch as the outside layer slide off before the whole coin melted. Could be legit. Though when you look at all the listings of these Statehood Quarters they have listed it seems they have found a treasure box full of off struck and clipped coins or have an insider. Composition: 91.66 copper at a melting point of 1981 degrees 8.33% nickel at a melting point of 2646 degrees. What I don't know is if these would "slide" off without having the coin show more damage per say. You would think there would be run marks or drips for lack of a better description. I'd be curious as to the exact weight though. I think for this to slide like this something would have been lost in the overall compostion. Just my thoughts. Report this Post to the Staff
Metalman Pillar of the Community United States 7123 Posts	Posted 03/09/2007 1:04 pm The quarters are struck off center ,, I'm not sure what the other mark is from ? it is curious that both quarters exhibit the same planchet flaw,, and they also do not look like they are clad, kinda copper colored .
