Could someone please tell me the condition of this coin and what it would be worth? I have a lot of coins and I don't know anything about them. I'm trying to decide if I would have any that would be worth sending off to have graded. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

RedBook says $400.00 in VF-20 and $600.00 in EF-40.
Maybe a Morgan expert can give you a better price from the dealers sheet.
To me your coin looks VF-20 range.

I agree with the grade of VF. However, I am not certain as to the value, but around $400 sounds about right.

Welcome to Coin Community, CGMom.

I would normally be very worried about the date placement - it's far too low for the average Morgan dollar. However, this specific date/mint is known for a variety with such a date placement and I'm therefore reassured. Doesn't guarantee it's real - this one's pretty pricey as they go and worth counterfeiting - but it's worth the investment for grading. I'm agreed with the others; VF-20 probably and it would fetch about $400 at auction in a PCGS slab.

What else you got?

Thanks for your input. My Husband (passed away 2 years ago from cancer) use to sell guns at gun shows. He traded a gun to a guy for a box of coins. They have been sitting in the safe for years. I am trying to find out what they might be worth now. I have sold some to a local collector but think he got the best of me on what I agreed to sell. He told me I didn't have any coins that he would send off to be graded. So I am looking for honest opinions on the grade of these since I don't know anything about coins except what I have been reading on the net. I just posted a pic with 5 1881's. Let me know what you think on them.

to CCF!

1st get a Red Book. This will help in the grading process & w/ prices. But, keep in mind that the Red Book is 25% - 30% higher than what is listed.

2nd ebay is a good place to check for current market pricing.

VF-20 sounds about right but there appears to be a very small rim bump at about 3 o'clock on the obverse. Also the color of the patina as well as a couple brighter patches near BUS in Plurbius, States, A in America, and right below the eagle's tailfeathers might suggest this coin has been cleaned in the past and has been retoning for a long time. So depending on the mood of the graders at the grading service, you may or may not see it in a problem free holder. It would be worth getting it graded since it would be easier to sell if that is what you are planning to do with this coin. Nice coin!
