Hello, Took my metal detector out to an old home site and found alot of neat junk but would rather spend my time digging for coins. I have an ace 150 and have it set for coins but it also rings for plow heads, frying pans, old metal and glass jar lids and cut nails in bunches.

One of the things that you will always find is junk !! There is no way to completely discriminate out all of the other metal types and still find coins ,,

What it takes is several times over the same areas to ,,remove the shallow targets and junk ,, narrow the field of targets down to where the detector only has coins to find or nothing at all.

Dont get discouraged with the junk,, just slow down and be sure and overlap your passes and the coins will come.

Oh one other thing ,,stand back and take a look at your site (I dont know how old were talking here ) but these suggestions can be used in most circulstances,, take a look at the site and try and picture the areas where families would gather, kids would play,,or in larger areas where pic nics would or could have occured,, things like this ,, and start withthe gut feelings on the site !!

But in the end cover pretty much all of the area and from different directions and weather soil conditions, ,dry, damp, cold, warm, all of these things can and do change the way your detector works and also the depth it will achieve.
