I know nothing when it comes to Roman coins. In fact I'm not even sure if this is Roman or a even coin! Any help would be greatly appreciated! The item has more of an oval shape and the profile is centered towards one of the corners. I included photos of both sides and one with a sketch of what the one side has on it. Whoever this is, he seems to be wearing a crown. Or maybe it could be rays of light? Thanks for looking.

It looks like a coin to me. I don't think attribution is possible in the condition that it is in, but the profile you drew is roughly consistant with a roman coin.

. I think it's Roman. I wonder if cleaning it might produce something attributable. Or, it may be too worn/corroded, but I would try.

From what I can see there appears to be a bust in the style of a Roman coin, but sadly I think the coin is too worn to be able to attribute it.

Looks to be a radiate, so yeah, roman. Try cleaning it up, it might reveal some better details.

My guess would be pre-reform 3rd century.

Possibly someone like Tetricus or Postumus.

Thanks for the replies everybody! Seeing how the coin is not in that great shape and very little can be identified on it, I think I'll give it a gentle olive oil bath. Maybe in several weeks time I may get a better image. In the mean time, I'll just keep searching the ground for a better one!

I found it in the ground metal detecting here in Germany. Are you asking where at specifically?

I admire the European Metal detectorist, living on the other side of the pond like myself, you could find yourself the Ancient Budweiser can complete with pull tab, the standard Home Depot 3.5" dry wall screw and a 1994 Green Lincoln Penny and that is in the "historical" locations. I think I someone might find me dead of a heart attack of I ever found a denarius...Congrats to the front line of Ancient coins.

Just wondering how you came to have it! Good to know where its from, make sure you write it all down.

I would love to own a detector and be able to hunt here in sunny England.
