I was looking through ebay and this coin caught my eye as a nice circulated example. it has the contrast which I like, but I feel like something is off.

Can anyone tell me if they think the wear on Columbus' is over the top in comparison to the lettering and edges? Similar pattern on the reverse, just not as dramatic.

Is this coin honest, or does something look fishy?

On the reverse it looks like two drilled holes on the top. This coin has seen a lot. If coins could talk.

nothing fishy...its just extra wear that could be a result of an older cleaning...i see extra wear on the mirrors of both the obverse and reverse that say older cleaning to me...

you can do better....lots of auctions happening right now on that coin that will end over the next week to come that I think you can snag an under $20 price on...keep searching...pass on this one...

Thanks, good advice. It looks good from far, but it's far from good. Or something like that.

Yeah, many circulated examples available. Those which did not sell at a dollar were released in to circulation at face value of fifty cents.
The 1892 is slightly better than the 1893.
They look good circulated so keep shopping.

bpoc1 is correct about the start of drill holes. This one should go for melt or a little more.

What a shame ... this was an honest AG/G Columbian half with the tremendous circulated cameo that I always enjoy.

Authentic wear ... alas the holes in the reverse render this a bullion coin.
