I have a 2006 (logo) 5-cent piece (seems anachronistic to call it a nickel) that has some rim damage, and I'm wondering if this happened in the mint after striking or is some PMD. The rim has multiple flattened portions that appear to have occurred from angled impact(s). I've attached a photo of the biggest impact - you can see the surface of the biggest impact is very smooth. The impacts are at 12 o'clock (biggest), 1 o'clock and 3 o'clock on the obverse, and 11 o'clock, 2 o'clock and 5 o'clock (2nd biggest) on the reverse. The fields bend near the major impacts where the lips were created when the coin was deformed. Otherwise the coin is high AU like you'd expect.

If there was only one impact my theory would be that it was a near-clip. Any ideas?

You sometimes see those marks on larger coins, always in the same spot, which could have formed from the ejection of the coin after the strike.
