I've looked on all of the reviews here and I'm not sure I want to spend $30 on a loupe since I don't look up that many errors. The errors I look for are minimal, usually just the Wide AM Close AM of LMC. I really don't know what else to look for I guess :(

Anyways, I'm limited to Wal-mart and Amazon. Thoughts? Feel free to PM me. I am debating on this one from Walmart, I can always return it if I don't like it.

That's not a loupe. I have a 14x doublet loupe that I paid about $8 for and like it.

I picked up a 16x "pocket magnifier" from a Hobby Lobby for $14. It was my first piece like that and it did a fine job. I also won a loupe on ebay for under $2.

http://www.amazon.com/BAUSCH-LOMB-H...+triplet+10x

The best I've used (have the 14x) no chromatic aberration/blurring around the edges. WYSIWYG with these awesome loupes - only downside is they are SMALL! Mine is the size of my pinky nail.

http://www.amazon.com/UltraOptix-Po...magnifier+7x

This is my all around "CAM/WAM" 7x lighted magnifier. I've only had to change the batteries once in 10 months with alot of use.

I've tried the ultra cheap loupes from Amazon and they are c r a p! Purple fringeing distortion... horrible. I've also tried projector lenses and lightbox loupes as well as cheapo sherlock holmes style magnifiers - they were all lacking!

Bausch and Lomb hastings triplet 14x ($30) and UltraOptix 7x aspheric LED lighted ($10) are the dynamic duo.

Good Luck!

edited to include: I saw the $30, but didn't "read" that you DIDN'T want to spend that - oops - in that case the second magnifier will do perfectly for your application! Cheers!

Thanks Lonz! I have ebay credits, so I might get the $30 one if you think it's that much better? Thanks for the responses everyone!
