Has anyone had extensive problems w/ their air tite holders cracking & shattering? I bought 100 air tites for my cent collection approx 2 yrs ago. At first, everything was fine. I used approx half of the holders in the first year w/ no problems. I started adding more cents to the collection recently, and I noticed that just about ALL of them have shattered/cracked. They have been stored in the closet in the same box they came in when I bought them. Have no idea what has happened. Help!

I haven't had any problems with mine. The only think I can think of is temperature swings, sunlight or maybe they were exposed to some kind of chemical vapors (shoe polish, carpet cleaner, etc.).

No extreme temperature or environmental fluctuations. They were in their original box, stored inside a rubbermaid storage bin w/ all my other supplies. It's just weird...

I have used Air-titrs for quite a few years. Yes, I have had a few that seem to just crack on there own while empty.
And I have dropped a few with coins in them and had the holder crack.
But that said I still think a clean Air-tite is the best way to store lone collector coins that are not in a set.
I wish the air-tite Albums were not so costly, if they were cheaper I would house most all my sets in these.

I never had a airtite crack yet. Even dropped a few with the coin inside and they were still okay.

I'm not a fan of the Airtite albums. Not only are they expensive I also don't like the way the pages are designed. The velvet feels cheap and they're simply glued onto a piece of cardboard. And for some reason the cardboard smells like a wet dog, ughhh.

Have you talked to the Airtite customer service department? They may even get you another batch if yours may have been a bad production batch.

Just a hunch, you weren't living in Tampa, FL and then suddenly moved to Vail, CO?

carmykle...

No I haven't spoken w/ the Airtite customer service dept. I bought the A/Ts quite a while ago from a different coin supply company. Didn't really think they would do anything for me, but heck, it's worth a try. I've been in central Florida since 1985 and haven't moved...
