I have seen some rumors that some of the current Presidential dollars are missing their edge lettering. I was wondering what value such a coin could command, and if it is worthwhile ordering dollar coins from the mint and searching them for this reported oddity.

Would you suppose that the premium you'd pay to the mint be more than offset by the uptick in the value of the coin itself plus grading fees from a TPG.

However, I do believe that with my lack of luck it would be total loss for me. If it wasn't for no luck I wouldn't have any luck.

I dont see anyway it would be profitable. If your bank happens to have them and will let you get as many as you want searching them maybe could be useful, but if you have to pay extra for them I wouldnt waste time if thats all you are looking for

I think I read an article that there were four Cleveland dollars missing edge lettering with an estimated value of $2,000. There's one currently on ebay right now with a BIN price just above this. The odds of finding one are very slim, but some people are lucky.

Washington's are the most common edge lettering. I saw a graded MS 65 example go for 60 bucks on ebay.
