Hmmm. I suspect they'll be going down at my store soon, as well. Gotta keep an eye out, although I'll be the first person in the building to know when it happens since I'm responsible for the price changes.

Ok, it is a light, but what makes it special? I am not familiar with it and would it be in the lighting department? Man, don't you just hate a rookie. Sorry for all the light ( ) weight questions. Thx Jim

It's not the light but the bulb. Supposed to be closest to natural sunlight which is best to bring out the true colors of coins etc...

I just use my photo editor to accomplish the same thing.

Last Friday, 3 days ago, I just picked up a gooseneck 100W halogen desklamp for $12 at my local Office Depot clearance (for coin photography). I could have bought an Ott lamp for $12 but I read a coin photog review that didn't give it such high grades. Maybe I should go back & get it?

Hey I have one of those ! It looks something like this (without the mag/holder) This particular one shown below is the latest version. There is also a floor lamp model. So with this type of light source is what you guys use to photograph coins? I hadn't thought of that ! Tensor Natural Daylight lamp w/3x magnification Description: Illuminate your workspace in the sunlight-like glow of this task lamp from Tensor. It makes reading and other up-close tasks large and bright with 3X magnification and a light bulb that increases contrast, shows true colors, and lasts up to 10,000 hours. A carrying handle even allows for easy transportation. Includes a 13W bulb. Image: tensor lamp.jpg33.43 KB Thanks, mila_

What is the difference between this OTT light and the vision saver one?
