Well, I've been offered a coin at what I think is a very reasonable price, but I know next to nothing about the Seleucid Empire. Can anyone tell me about this coin and even go so far as to tell me what you think of it's authenticity. Thanks for looking guys.

I see nothing wrong with the coin. The photo could be better. Great deal? $10; reasonable $20?

The patina sure looks real to me--and the centering is good too.
That one has better centering/detail than examples on vcoins for $30+.

I like this type and have thought about getting one.

There a good chapter on Seleucid coins in the J. Anthony book.

I wouldn't be afraid to make an offer on this coin, it's in good shape. Most of the other examples of the AE type have a club in the bottom left field.

There is a nice website here but unfortunately no pics for Zabinas. http://www.seleukidempire.org/index.html

Thanks all. The seller is from S. Africa and originally wanted an outrageous amount. Looking around on the net, I found similar coins selling for the prices you all have found, so I made him an offer that would have been a great price. He countered with what Doug calls a reasonable price. I am considering if I should counter that offer or not. I suspect $20 with reduced shipping is not a bad deal and may be his bottom line. So....I'm thinking

I would be happy with this coin for $30, over the counter. If you can get for $20, go for it!

The obverse looks like the radiant head of Helios!!- Similar to some of the bronze coins of Rhodes. A very nice coin. Well done. Check out this...http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/gree...hodes/t.html

kind of looks like the obverse of...SNGHel 734

I think JW is starting to enjoy dipping his toe in the Greek coins.

Not really. But, as someone said on another thread, one should not get locked into just one category of Ancients. I'm still a Roman collector at heart. But at least now I can say I have a few coins from other ancient cultures. (Roman is so easy to understand and research in comparison).
