Hi this is my first post and I found this site because I was anxious to gather some information on this $20 dollar bill I acquired earlier today. If someone could please give me an idea of its value I would greatly appreciate it.

2004-$20-Star-Note-With-Major-Error

The bill itself is in great shape with no folds or tears or signs of wear. I'm very anxious and excited so look forward to hearing any feedback. I did check other post and the circulation amount was 320,000 with the serial number being EK 00070413*

By the way (where are my manners) welcome to the forum!

That note is certainly a keeper and I should also ask, are you familiar with the purpose of star notes and why that makes yours especially ironic?

I know star notes are meant to replace errors and its an error star note. Thats why I had to have it. Hoping I didn't pay to much for it but I saw it sitting in a pawn shop and thought it was way to cool to pass up. Hoping someone could give me a round about price guess before I admitted what I paid.

Good to see you informed! :-) That means you're ahead of the game.

As for a price, I'm going to have to defer to the paper currency collectors here who will probably be in soon to voice their opinions.

All I can say is that it's certainly desirable and will command a nice premium as it's a rare star note from that printing.

There is a $2 star note with a similar error on the bay right now.

There are four days left in that auction and it already has bids. So see how that one does and you should have some idea.

Good luck!

My suggestion is to keep this note VERY well protected from damage and to get it graded ASAP.

That will cost you, but it will give the note more credibility and therefore boost the price.

Very nice find.

This is one sweet note...
This error happened in the COPE-PAK operation (Currency Overprinting and Processing Equipment, Packaging), and judging from the serial numbers being in the correct possition, either a 32 subject or 16 subject (1/2) Sheet was rotated 180 degrees after receiving the 3rd printing (Seals and Serial Numbers), then entered the cutting operation rotated 180 degrees (wide boarder on back, partial second note on the front) and the result is what you have in hand.
At first glance one would think that it would be a mis-aligned second printing error, but the serial number location and extra wide border on the back eliminates that theory as a mis-aligned second printing would have the Serial Numbers off set and the borders on the back would be more centered...
It could be possible that the BEP inspector placed more then one sheet rotated when returning this back into production, but I doubt it..
The great thing about this note is that it is a replacement star note, and this would make a excellent birthday note for someone born in Dallas, Texas on July 4,2013 (07/04/13 and the Dallas Federal Reserve Bank)...
I would recommend either PMG or PCGS holder this error as it would bring more when you sell it...
It is hard to give a retail value on this note as if more than one person wants it, there is no telling how high the bids would go, but I would place a minimum price at $500 Certified...
I love errors and would bid on it if I had the funds to do so...

Thank you for your reply. I can finally admit that I paid $275 for it. Seemed pricey at first but after research and sitting and admiring it I am completely happy with the purchase. I am going to a PMG retailer first thing in the morning to see about getting it certified and an appraisal. Once again thanks for your input!

I think you will atleast double or triple your investment...
If I owned this note and was selling it, I would focus on the birthdate error note, I know I would like to have a error note with the serial number 07201953 (my birthdate).

to CCF. I don't want to rain on your parade but how can you tell if it's a real error or if someone just bought a sheet and cut it them self that way? That's the first thing that came to my mind when I say it.

I could be wrong, but I think it's because the obverse shows part of another note on the top but the reverse doesn't, indicating some sort of misalignment.

But, yeah -- I had the same question when I first saw it...

I didn't think they sold star note sheets. Do they?
