My vote is AU50-cleaned.
The strike is above average--see reverse N . 5, 8
Wear should be only be traces on high points of obverse
But--is there any luster?

Now that is a great example of a cleaned coin.

Also probably dipped a few too many times.

Not a drop of lustre left on that one.

Definite problem coin.

Hey, who was the jewel thief that dug out middle gem on reverse side crown... :)

Nice details on reverse, wear on obverse portrait... eyebrow / eyelid worn... lower braid worn...

Rim ding / edge crease upper obverse, lots of nicks on portrait, and a pit in field by R in REGINA...

VF-30+ details... but too bad it's got so much hairlining...

I still have that coin. I never bought the coin, my dad did many years ago from Bob Armstrong. On the flip Bob Armstrong had graded it Abt.EF lightly cleaned. I have several 1858-20 cent pieces and this is the only one that was ever cleaned. Unfortunately it happens be the one with the best details.

Eventhough Bob Armstrong labelled the coin as only 'lightly' cleaned, I'm positive the price your Father paid was in accordance with the state of the coin, as Bob Armstrong I found over the years to be a highly reputable and very fair coin dealer.
