Found this one in the wild in my pocket change. Weighs 7.2 but is solid brass (really deep resonant brass ring, not the coppery one like a genuine Sac.). Almost spent it at a Lindt shop before I noticed it. :-)

Awesome. My understanding is that these are being in Central or South America where the brass bucks circulate more. Do you know any more about them?

Aye, you're correct. This one, given the rim, was probably one of the bunches made in Ecuador. Unfortunately, anything beyond that is a bit squiffy.

Is this a case where the counterfeit is worth more than the real thing? Thanks for sharing!

That's actually very cool and would definantly be worth more than one dollar to the right collectors.

Aye, since they're rather rare in circulation in the States (there are more bogus $1 bills per unit than coins; scary thought), this one is worth anywhere from $5-15. Down in South America I'm not sure what the statistics are, though.

I've seen them bring as much as $50 on ebay but that was awhile back.

I don't know how you would legally sale one of them on ebay especially since they passed the new law about no fakes being sold

My counterfeit collection is currently in the hundreds of pieces, but I only have one other fake Sacagawea. I think I'm hanging on to this one. :-)

Nice find ...

I'm going to Guatemala in October ... suppose I should keep an eye out for fake USA dollars.
