This is really disconcerting. There is no way this coin makes MS-67 with all of the hits and also the FS even looks iffy.

Tell me what you think.

As a side note, there even appears to be wear on the hair by the ear...

The 'fail' would seem to be a $60 coin (at best) is listed at $900.

I agree with that, but if that is a MS-67 then I need to go re-evaluate a few of my nickels

You would need to see the coin in hand before you say this. I would say PCGS has failed on many occasions as well

The toning on that doesn't do it any favors making some hard to tell whats the tone and whats really a dent. With the close up picture and the ebay zoom feature it could also be that creates a higher zoom than the 5x I believe they use to grade

I don't believe the certification services when they claim that the graders don't know the person/dealer/company when they grade the coins, and strongly believe it's all who you know to get the high (overgraded) coin...
This can be one reason that CAC stickers less than half of the PCGS & NGC submissions... (I don't own any CAC coins)

This is a real shocker. Maybe someone has replaced the coin. I'd ask for photos of the slabs edges.

That one should have gone MS-65 at best. Someone got a gift on that when it was graded.

I can say for a fact that on a test, I sent in some coins and then sent them to a big dealer and he cracked them out and sent them back in to PCGS and 4 out of 5 coins came back at least one grade higher (one was 2 points higher) than they were graded when I sent them in. I have talked to a former grader at5 PCGS and he had the same claim that they couldn't tell who the submitter was and when I told them what had happened they said it may have been a different5 tier that the coins were sent in that made the difference or yadda yadda yadda but I don't understand how a tier of submission form could make one coin 2 points higher when you are supposed to have a certain grading standard./ Its either one grade or another, there is no way it can be both grades. I can actually understand one coin in the lot maybe being different one grade but I find it odd that 3 were one point higher and one was 2 points higher

Hehe but PCGS would call this kind of fail a "clerical error" which isn't covered by their Guarantee.

I think it would be pushing it to call that a 64. Definite mis-grading.

Hummmmm.....I think it's a beautiful coin with rainbow toning. You guys can't really accurately judge/grade a coin using a few pictures. I suspect this coin has a lot of luster and eye appeal which is why it got the grade. If you're not a fan of toning, don't buy it or anything like it. But you can't conclusively say it's misgraded.

Buy the coin, not the slab.
