Hi all member HONDO has a thread on his franklin collection which now has other members posting pics of their coins. I don't want to rain on his own purchases so this thread is for cameo proof franklins that any member owns!!

Pls post pictures of your cameo franklins! They are one of my favorite coins.....the cameo look is very eye appealing!

Here is some to start this thread off

The top of the head detail is a little bit degraded as a result of treating the die to obtain the cameo effect.
Compare with a very well struck with new dies business strike.

I've searched many proof sets and have yet to myself find a cameo franklin in a proof set, I wish I was lucky like some who I know. Cameo franklins aren't common, you may not find a cameo franklin even after going through hundreds of proof sets.

The die weren't treated to obtain the cameo effect. The proofs of the time were intended to be fully brilliant. The cameo effect, an artifact produced on the first few coins struck with each die pair, was the result of the cost that would have been incurred if they had tried to polish the devices on the die before use. Letting the first few strikes polish the devices was far cheaper. Collectors came to like the cameo coins and after the 1965-1967 hiatus, the mint set out to manufacture die that could create this effect throughout their lifetime.

Kylecolb, I highly doubt your 59 is a 69dcam.....that would be a 5 figure coin. Those pictures don't show the frostiness of franklins head and other things to make it a cameo or deep cameo.

Great coins guys! Wish I had looked for these years ago when there wasn't any premium on them.

A few more. The photos don't give the true in hand experience.
