Just got my Dansco Type Coin pages from Valley and am taking my coins out of the air-tites and filling the Dansco pages with what I have. I have so many extra proof modern coins that I thought about putting them in my type set. When I did they seemed out of place with the other older type coins in the album. How does anyone else feel about this. I'm thinking really extra nice circulated coins look better.
Thanks again for your anticipated great replys.

P.S. It's not a lot of fun opening 20-25 air-tites.

You could always go the other direction, and use all proofs? I don't see anything wrong with putting the nicest example you have in a hole...be it proof, ms, or good.

Personally I dont like proofs in the danscos. Too hard to keep them looking completely clean getting them in there. But if you collect coins raw I dont see anything wrong with keeping your nice coins in an album instead of a capsule

Personally, I keep all my modern proof quarters in danscos, but my pre 1970 kennedys and franklins are in slabs... Mainly for protection.
It's all about what you like best.

I actually did use a 1961 proof set for allot of the coins in my 7070 type album mainly because I had two of the sets and I was planning on keeping my coins AU at the lowest so the proof coins wouldn't really look to much out of place beside a MS or even high AU coin

That's how I have some modern coins in my 7070 and it looks just right to me. I wouldn't expect my Hawaii quarter to look at all similar to say, a Seated Liberty or Bust quarter. Besides, in a display of different types of coins, the display of different strikes and different levels of circulation or lack thereof, well, seems appropriate. I do acknowledge that many disagree with my view on this though, so you can't go wrong my just plain doing what you like.

I am with you Edgman. I really am not a fan if a proof coin in a set unless its a classic coin. They don't have the super shiny surface as the modern proofs do.

I have avoided putting proofs in my album because they will cloud and tone over time. Also a chance of getting slide marks on them when you pull out the mylar windows to insert new coins.

The last page (if your not doing the gold page) can be done in all proof.
As for the others .. I guess you could put the proofs on the other pages .. and if you don't like how it looks, then switch them out

I use all Whitman Classic Albums. All the ones I use have slots for Proofs and I put proofs in them all. I've been doing this for many, many years and never had a proof get cloudy, milky or anything. Of course I put all my Albums in Zip Lock Plastic Bags.

I have one proof in my 7070, a 1982 Washington Commemorative Half Dollar. I also have the uncirculated version right next to it. I bought them together (from the mint in 1982), so I wanted to keep them together.

I usually avoid proof coins in the 7070. I think they look out of place. Obviously alot of my modern coins look nicer/sharper than my older coins (especially the expensive and/or rare ones that I had to buy in lower grades). I don't want that gap to be widened by placing pristine looking proofs in the album with to older worn coins in other slots. I enjoy some variety in the appearance of the coins but proof would be a bit too much "shine" for me. Don't get me wrong though I enjoy proof coins in with modern coin sets, but something that spans so many decades/centuries like a type set just doesn't look as good to me if it includes proofs.

I have looked at my album both with proofs and non-proofs and have concluded that it looks better without the proof coins in my album. They seem to take away from my older coins. Dont get me wrong I like proofs. In fact I collect PCGS Proof Lincolns, Ikes, SBA's and Sacagewa's. All my sets are on the PCGS registry. I also have lots of non-slabbed proofs and when I put a proof Kennedy or Ike alongside my Barber and Draped Bust coins they look out of place. Thanks for all your input. Keep it coming. I will have more posts about the type coin sets. edgman
