I see that ICG is offering up to 20 US coins graded/slabbed for $10 each. I know that some here do not think much of ICG's grading, but is the $10 worth the slabbing, protection, proof of authentic, if you really don't care about the grade. I am talking about a couple SAE Proofs and the like, maybe a damaged late 1800's Gold half eagle, things I have no real reason to sell and will hold on too for some time.
Thanks for your opinions.

Im a little torn on a yes or no. It is a good way to authenticate and protect the coins, but if you did have to sell the premium for it is so low its not really worth it. I know you have no plans to sell but I'm a believer of always leaving the option open just in case, so if I were to slab it I would do it with the company I would want to sell it with.

Im not that familiar with the prices of the coins you listed, for the late 1800s gold Id probably say no but I dont think SAEs bring big prices anyway so for them it wouldnt really matter. No reason to pay more for the grading if in the end it wouldnt make you any money or would cost you money.

Just my opinion though, in the end all that really matters is what you want to do and how you want your coins.

Buy the coin not the slab the old saying goes, unfortunately; this age of Numismedia has gotten over the track, as more speculators prefer one company over another, and some collects the slabs itself.

Do what you like, there's no difference if you are collecting coins, but if you're going to sell in the future, you will want to stick to the game.

I believe that ICG is now recognized by ebay as a reputable grader. However, I don't believe it has the reputation of PCGS or NGC.

You get what you pay for.
ICG's reputation is in tatters and coins in their holders sell for almost the same as raw.
It your money and your coins, so do what you want but I wouldn't use ICG personally.

Many thanks Gentlemen for your opinions. It seems that what some see as negative.......... I am seeing as a plus, and that is why I asked for your sense of it all. I know it all could change, but right now I am looking more at buying/collecting and not selling/stacking. I have a few SAE's and other bullion and these are not what I would send off to ICG for slabbing. I did pick up a few SAE Proofs and thought that these could be fun to start collecting. But the loose ones I see are running about the same price as those that are ICG slabbed and graded. I will say that slabbing the Gold half eagle is not smart so thank you for that.
I will wait a day or so to hear what more have to say, but I really do appreciate CCF and all the coin folks here.

Not familiar with them at all but at all the coin shows, it appears that everyone in Earth is a PCGS o NGC person. Yes there are possibly a hundred other graders but a coin in a PCGS or NGC slab is a much better seller. I myself do not have any slabbed coins and when I buy one, out comes the coins anyway.
