I just received this set yesterday. It made me wonder if any of the 2011 test tokens escaped into circulation. I know it says that approximately 1 million of the $1 and $2 test tokens were used to calibrate equipment and all were sent back to the Mint.

Unlike previous tokens these have the denomination and date on them and look mostly like the actual 2012 steel coins produced. I would think these tokens would pass rather easily undetected by the general public now that the 2012 steel coins are circulating.

Does anyone know how the RCM ensures it gets the tokens back?

Picked up a set at the post office today. I grew tired of waiting for my order... I gave the mint representative heck on the phone Friday. I asked her how it was possible that the RCM mint boutique in Ottawa had sets for sale in the gift shop, yet my web order was "waiting for stock"... she could not answer me...

I picked up two sets at Mat's store in Edmonton on Tuesday but local PO didn't have yet, yesterday.
Rest in Peace

I was wondering the same thing as the original post - these 'tokens' are essentially undetectable by the public at large. I received one set about 2 weeks ago, and rec'd an email today indicating that my second set (ordered in June) is now being shipped.
