I was wondering if this was a real error or not. It looks right on the front for an Off center, but why is there no detail on the reverse?

The reverse was overlapping another planchet when struck so it is uniface(no design present).

Looks like a undated 60% off center uni-face strike Five cent piece, and at $51.20 (with postage), think it is overpriced...

Off center broadstrike with a brockage reverse. There was a coin stuck on the reverse die causing the collar to depress. That would give you a spread out strike. It may also have interfered with the feed mechanism leading to the planchet being fed part way. Very nice error. Is it worth $50? Pricey.

A dealer friend of mine came back from the 'States a few years ago with about 200 or so of this type of mint 'spoil' (error). He was selling them over the counter for $20 each. A couple of years later, after he had sold all of them, the local price in Sydney started to rise, and occasionally, I now see them for around the $50 mark.

These errors are scarce, but I would definitely not consider them as 'rare'.

All you need is for a high speed minting press to go a little 'crazy', and next thing you know, you have shovels full of them!
