I know this happens often, but it is rare to find one so blatant. I wrote the seller yesterday and told her it was a fake. She wrote back and thanked me, but the coin is still for sale with an ending time I believe in about 6 hours. Anyway, the reason I am posting is to ask what the "VX" stamp might mean on the reverse of this coin. There is an "R" as well, but I would suspect that means replica. Does anyone know the meaning of VX? Here is the image of the reverse of the aforementioned coin:

When I started this hobby one of the first things I did was learn as much as I could about fakes. One of the very first things I learned was what that R means. Not sure about the VX but hopefully whoever buys it doesn't lose much money.

Does the listing mention it is a replica? If she is trying to pass it off as genuine you need to report it to ebay at least.

No she has herself covered to some extent. The coin is listed as follows: Old Antique Roma R VX Coin Money Token caes vespasian ? ? ? Then in the body she has it described thus: Quote: I have here a antique Roma coin that I came across I can honestly say that I have no idea what it is or how old it is sorry lol. But I think the pictures came out really well so you will no more then me by looking at them I just put the dime in to show you the size. And also if you do know anything could you give me some input about the item? I wrote and her response was: Quote: K Thanks for the info I will check in to it. Phyllis So I think her rear is covered, but as of now there have only been 2 bids totaling $10.51. I'm still curious what the VX stands for.

My immediate thought was roman numerals - 5, 10. Perhaps its a catalogue number for the dies?

No, this is a modern punch. Not anything put there when the coin was struck

Thats what I'm saying - the fakers labelling their coins with roman numerals. Perhaps they consider it to look more roman than arabic numerals.

I think they added that one because we do it so often.
