Hi guys,
Got another indo-greek square today, I've got this "thing" for these coins...love them. anyway, not in great shape but in pretty darn good shape for $ 15.50 shipped.

I'm not certain on the exact attribution, but it is going to be pretty close to...

Indo-Greek: Apollodotus I,
AE double or hemi-obol (not sure?)
174-160 BC

OBV:Apollo standing facing, holding arrow in right hand and bow in left, no monogram at left,
Greek legend: BAΣIΛEΩΣ AΠOΛΛOÎ"OTOY ΣΩTHPOΣ /

REV:Tripod with dotted border,
Kharoshthi legend on three sides: maharajasa apaladatasa tratarasa

Taxila mint? (not sure)

Seems to be the correct size and weighs in at about 9 grams, what is to be expected.

thanks to dougs for helping me with the attribution of my last coin, if anyone can help me here that would be great.

I know next to nothing about this coin but I must say I really love the color and the shape, its a very unique looking coin. It also appears to be in very decent condition. I really want to get one. I recently have become more interested in the coins of the Ancient East. Cudos to you and your coin.

Despite this being a very rough coin, I would have snapped it up myself for $15.50. Well done!

The weight suggests hemiobol with some loss to corrosion. I can't read the mintmark. Keep an eye out for the square silver drachm that was issued with this one. It shows an elephant and a bull.

Nice coin!

I'm planning on purchasing one of those in the future. Gotta have one of those square Indo-Greek coins.

Wow that silver one is a corker!

As for your coin chrsmat it is good value, and certainly an interesting coin to add to your collection.

A small question... this inscription BAΣIΛEΩΣ appears on many greek coins and I feel like I should know what it means by now...anyone know?
