Been looking for a nice Gratian Reparatio Reipvb for cheap to add to my collection and found this one. I am usually decent at spotting fakes but since the forgers have gotten really good at making fakes of LRBs (anyone remember my thread about the fake coins of Theodosius a while back?), I have gotten a bit paranoid cautious when I find nice-looking LRBs at low-ish prices. So please let me know what you think about this coin. Thanks a lot!

I have a web site on RIC IX, that is Valentinian (364 AD) and later.

Your coin is type 18. It is a nice, genuine, example.

Thanks all for your help. It was at a decent enough price but I sent an offer anyway and I got the coin!

I don't think you can go wrong at that price...as rusty Romans go its appealing.

I particularly like the portrait, not sure what kind of headband this is but it is showing nice detail...it makes him look pretty cool :)

Thanks David. Yeah, the portrait is pretty awesome. While these late Roman portraits don't really accurately depict the emperors like 1st-3rd century coins did, they are attractive in their own right IMO. That headband BTW is a diadem, a pearl-diadem to be exact; the vast majority of late Roman coins have the emperors depicted with them.
