Are there any services that appraise coins? Not nessessarly slabbing but looking at a coin or a collection of coins to see if any are worth while slabbing? If there are who would be the best and what would the cost be?

I would think that a good coin shop could do that or maybe a local auction house? Where are you located?

North east texas. I have not ventured out in the real world of coins, just on line places. How would I know what to look for in a dealer?

Honesty, problem is you would really need to frequent the shop so you can get to know them. I go to the same shop that I have been going to since 1971 and I trust the guy.Maybe a fellow member from TX will chime in soon.
