Looks like a pre strike delamination (defective planchet). Its very cool and more valuable than if it were poststrike imo. How much does this one weigh?
Hello Badger Mint...ErrorCoins222 . Thanks so much for the replies...I was talking to a friend of mine and I'll be getting a weigh scale this weekend..I'll let you know next week.
There isn't a need for the weight to authenticate it; there is no doubt that it is genuine. I was just curious as to how much metal was absent from the planchet to create such a weak impression on the obverse. I'd think that its worth around ten dollars. Did you find it in circulation?
Hi ErrorCoins222..some of these are from circulation...others from family and friends...just accumulated a lot over the past while and put them away. Now sorting through them all..it's a lot of fun.
Nice coin, struck on a planchet that had a large lamination. I would pay more than $10 for that coin - I think to the right collector, that is a $20 coin.... I bet it would even get more on ebay, errors seem to be hot right now...
