I bought a raw 1971 Ike dollar for $1.50 and turned it into a PCGS MS-64+

which I traded for $50 cash, a PCGS MS-64 1971 Ike dollar, and a 1921 Morgan dollar with AU details

I traded the 1921 Morgan dollar for $25 cash at a cash for gold shop

and then bought with that

An G-04 details 1798 Large Cent (scratch on the obverse, but not unattractive) and an 1837 hard times token in XF-40.

I paid $5 for the cent and $20 for the token.

I think I'll probably flip those two pieces for something else...

not bad for a $1.50

Where did you get a 1798 cent with G-4 details for $5?

That's great story, very inspirational. Congratulation.

I'm still looking for a BU 1971-P for my album..... I gotta hit the coin show and do more searching for those mint set.... at the Long Beach coin show just passed, two major dealer specialize in mint/proof set didn't have the 71 mint set. I also check up a few dealers w/ albums of Ike and they have none. Being in California make it harder. On the other hand, I got a circulated 71-P from circulation (not sure where) and it had been sitting on my desk for a a while until last night when I check them out. I need to fill a few more holes to complete my Uncirculated BU/PF/S-PF album.... then heading for a decent MS grade in TPG holder.

I would almost wonder if the 1798 Large cent was a counterfeit because even in a g4 its valued at $120, I can't imagine a coin shop making a $100 mistake. But still awesome turn around.

If that 1798 is legit you could really turn it around for something good maybe a Trade dollar the way you are going.

I got an MS Community Service Dollar for $35 and these sell for $100+ and was thinking of doing the same thing maybe picking up the proof version of the coin and getting a second coin with the profit I made off the MS.
