Has any one heard of John Wexler and his website to examine coins and give a definitive evaluation? It costs three dollars to examine one side and five dollars to examine both sides. I live out in the country and a 2 hour drive to a coin shop or coin club. I find that the price, even with shipping cost, would be cost effective due to high gas prices. I would think this would be a good step before getting a coin graded and having someone actually seeing the coin instead of the limitations of photos. Before sending a coin out I am looking for recommendations. Any opinions would be helpful. Thanks

Just goes to show how much of a rip off the TPG'S are. If this guy can do it for this price and still make a quid why does it cost sooo much at pcgs etc i would imagine that the TPG's think that they have the US collectors because of their fear of buying/selling raw coins and can charge whatever they like

Hes smart to charge so little to make some extra money. If he charged more people wouldnt consider doing it

This post I put out is not about TPG just to make sure everyone understands. Okay with that said....I have a dime that one the reverse side has what looks like to be a Double Die on only the m in unum. I posted this coin a few weeks ago. ( https://goccf.com/t/129465#129465 )This coin just has me befuddled, and would like to someone look at it physically. I have compared it to many online examples. Just haven't seen only one letter dd.

If your curiosity is great enough three bucks plus postage seems very reasonable if you can't get a qualified answer here.If you submit your coin let us know how it turns out.

I'm only suprized more and more people don't try this. It only takes the time to make a web site claiming to grade a coin. And for a small amount too so attracts lots of people. Just as with all the basement graders and slabbers, one more thing to add to this coin collecting craze.

The reason I posted the inquiry about this coin evaluation, is the replies I got back after posting the 1978d dime the first time(*see below) This is why I am courious about someone seeing this physically or if someone could answer this I would be satisfied. Thanks again ( http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/..29465#129465)* Wow that is interesting. I haven't seen anything quite like that. Does not look like MD, push doubling or deterioration to me. Interesting that it shows only on the M, in the middle and the eastern leg, and it is so extreme. The dot might be exhibiting some sort of doubling, but the dot looks rather normal to me. I have been looking through a ton of site hoping to find even something remotely of this sort. Anyone out there have any suggestions I hope we get some input. It would be nicer to have conversation rather than just a link pasted as a reply, without any thoughtful contribution or acknowledgement of your inquiry. I'm interested to know what others think. Thanks for sharing

He can do it cheap because he is not slabbing, not paying a staff salaries, not doing a lot of advertising, and not offering a buy back guarantee.

Use the $10 special for ANACS....get an honest grade and a slab as well. ANACS also handles most of the varieties recognized.

Difficult to show anyone that it was graded by Mr.xxxxx or whoever. Might as well put a grade on it with something and say it's been done by Mr.xxxx and use your next door neighbors name.
