Some of you may recall when I purchased an AE24 of Philip I, SNG France 1259, struck at Pisidia, Antiochia, back in January of this year. Well, today I purchased another almost identical coin only this one is an AE25 with an attribution of SNG France 1262. the first coin weighs 6.9g while the newest coin weighs 8.1g. Personally, I don't see much difference in the two coins.

The bottom image is today's coin. I admit the coin from January is in slightly better condition, but I have been watching for the twin to this coin ever since I saw one a few months ago.

Some differences on todays coin seem apperent...

The C and H moved from the centre of the top of the reverse to join the legends on either side (and extra O on the end)

Flag is different shape and bird on top is facing other direction. And the brass monkeys (cannonball holders if thats what they are) have horizontal lines too.

I prefer the top coin but it must be nice to have a related pair and they are quite different in character. Good job :)

Remember when using a reference that is actually a catalog of a collection like SNG or BMC wou will get multiple listings for what seems like the same coin or coins with minor differences (like letter spacing) just because the collection had duplicates in it. Such catalogs make no effort to list all known types but simply to record what was in the collection. Books like RIC attempt to tell what exists no matter where it exists but they often stop short of separate listings for things like letter spacing (RIC does sometimes and sometimes not).

As always I warn that it is dangerous to quote refereences you do not have at hand to chck what the difference is. In this case I (not an SNG France owner) have no idea what the difference between 1259 and 1262 might be or why there were so many like coins in the collection.
