Howdy from the great white north!

Found this in a roll of pennies up here in Canada and not familiar enough with the Lincolns to know the difference.

Odds would tell me that it is nothing special, but a quick google did note a few '88 Ds came out without their copper.

FWIW, the coin does have a faint green and purple tone to it (not captured in the photo).

Any insight would be appreciated.

I'm no expert but my gut instinct says it is environmental damage. That copper coating seems to erode away quite easily.

If your coin was free of damage then I would think you would have something worth checking out. But it is worn and so it kind of makes me think that it got left out in the (acid)rain.

Maybe an expert can tell you if there were any unique die marks that could let you know for sure.

Probably just an experiment by somebody to remove the plating...as mentioned, the damage would prevent you from finding out for sure anyway..

I don't think it's coated with anything. It just looks like the copper plating is gone
