It may be obvious to you, but not to me.

Would you like to share the joke, please ?

Is it just me or is the "8" winking?
Ebay-Laugh-Of-The-Day

Pertinax, it is indeed not obvious at first. As one takes a closer look these two "coins" are surprisingly identical.
A genuine 1877 cent in MS-60 goes for more than $3000 each.
No returns, very poor spelling and grammar.
"Too good to be true" = BAD!

Yeah, he already tried to sell some of these very rare coins. But hey, his day used to work at the mint so that's good enough for me!

Here is an honest ebay seller - same item:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Large-3-Met...em2c6826bf00

And a genuine, proof example:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1877-1c-PCG...orceRpt=true

Now compare the close ups:
Ebay-Laugh-Of-The-Day
Ebay-Laugh-Of-The-Day
The dates have very different styles. Also, on the paperweight the designer's initial "L" is missing.
James B. Longacre.

L missing:

L present
Ebay-Laugh-Of-The-Day

The "L" is on its side, so it is hard to notice.

To jokingjoker:
Did I present a good explanation?
To Pertinax,
I hope that this helps you.

Yes, the item has been removed.

When I saw them on wbay, there was lots of verdigris and they lookeed less than VF to me so the relevance of MS-60 escapes me.

What are 'coasters' in this context, please ?
It's not in the glossary.

To me, they're either small mats on which to rest your glass or ships that go up and down the coast.

Pertinax

Coasters are those round discs on which you place a glass so that your wife doesn't get angry about leaving rings on the table. I'm sure you guys across the pond have a different name for them like car trunks and hoods, apartments, etc.
