. . . because although IHC are my pet coin, I have roughly a zillion* wheats--literally most-of-two-flip-boxes-full of dates from 1911 to 1939 alone (we won't discuss the number of coin tubes I have 40s-50s stored in). So I'm thinking maybe it's time to get an album and see what dates and marks I'm missing, and start actively hunting them down? But I've never used an album, and the first thing I did with many of the earlier dates (which were a purchase from my former boss) was to pop them out of a folder, which I thought looked cheap and ugly. So . . . how? (Can I leave them in the flips? I like flips. They're such handy little things.) What brand? How do I do this? Most importantly . . . price range? HELP!! *approx. measurement

Thought about keeping them in 2x2 flips and using pages in a 3 ring binder?

Tread carefully with this, Nina. I have heard stories* of folks whose second floors have collapsed onto the first level from the excessive weight of copper in their "collection" room after they'd caught the Lincoln bug.
*Apocryphal, of course....I think.

Better get a good lock for your door. At the current price of copper your zillion wheats are worth about $25 jillion*. Forbes must have missed you in their latest issue of the wealthiest Americans.
But seriously, everyone maligns albums, but for cents I like them. Sure they're cheap, but you're talking about the lowest denomination coin that the US has produced in over a century and a half. It seems kinda fitting to keep them in folders or albums. Just my 2 cents to add to your collection.
* Assuming that 1000 jillion = zillion.

acloco, do they make those? (different, related question: that set I keep seeing at Hobby Lobby that has a bunch of varisized flips I'd never use, plus clear pages, is that what the pages are?)

I can't find it now, but BadThad has a thread on his binder. It looks spectacular.

SuperDave, lol. I remember a pic being posted of some guy who had ten 55 gallon barrels full of copper cents on one side of his garage. If he owns the house, the foundation wont last long... still laughing at the absent-mindedness.

I keep all wheat pennies that I come accross while roll searching for copper pennies. So far I have searched over 85 boxes and have accumulated just over 1,100 wheat pennies.
At this point in time I am not seperating them into a decade grouping or anything. I'm just putting them into usused perscription bottles (150 to bottle). This is a good activity for those nights that I just can't sleep.
I'm still hoping to find a 1910 s vdb but no such luck yet.
It really doesn't hurt anything to keep the wheat pennies. They're easy on the pocket to hoard and by storing them in empty pill bottles they are not only easy to transport, but I'm saving space in the local landfill for other more important things.
edit: If I were you I'd go for it. I've found many unusual things in penny rolls and coins from many different countries. Nina if you hoard wheats it really won't hurt the pocketbook.

Ghostrider, I already keep all wheats I come across (except the really buttnasty ones that are barely recognisable as wheats anymore). But, I also have a bunch of flipped wheats from 1939 on back (my earliest is a 1911), and would like to display these in an album--but don't know how. I've never done albums. I'm one of those out of the pocket, into the shoebox collectors.

What are you waiting for? Buy some Cowens binder pages and a 3-ring binder and get started.

Quote: What are you waiting for? Buy some Cowens binder pages and a 3-ring binder and get started. A reply like that (and, now, my paycheque). I've never done albums and the idea of jumping mediums from "flips stored in old flip packaging, tucked in a shoebox" to "actual, real album like grownups use" is daunting. With the endless debates on here about Dansco vs not, raw vs. slab, album vs. folder, etc., it's hard to know where to begin. Semirelated note, did you get the pics I sent you of the IHC I'm worried about? I haven't heard back and I'm wondering if they sent.
