Hi everyone,
Recently I've been checking mint.ca and looking for a decent set of coins to be my first coin collections. I'm looking into those $20 silver coins with price around $100. I liked those Chinese zodiac coins but still thinking whether they are worth keeping since the mintages are a bit too high. Then I looked at the wild flower coins, they look really nice, however, they seem not to be very popular. I'm really looking forward to start my coin collection here. Please suggest some good and worth-keeping coins to me! Your advise and suggestions for me are greatly appreciated!! Thank you.

Collect what you really like :) If it's not popular but you like it - get it.
If you want to make money - NCLT is most often a miss than a hit.
If you really want to make money while taking risks - buy bullion.

In any case, better do a research first for a month or two.

Thanks unclekim, do you think the wild flower series is worth to keep? (2010 water lily, 2011 wild rose, 2012 rhododendron) btw do you know how many more coins in this series the RCM will issue?

I'm collecting these flowers. As well as crystal raindrop maples (2008-2012) and previous coloured maple leaves (2001-2007).
Nobody knows size of the series :)

Collect the coins you like. I don't usually buy Canadian NCLT but sometimes I do.

Take a spin through this website. It shows many of the coins available and gives dealer prices. Buy direct from the RCM if you think it's going to be popular, you have to have it NOW, or you're happy paying for the convenience of not having to hunt for it. But in my experience, the majority of NCLTs can be picked up below issue price a couple of years later. Check completed listings in ebay to see what they've been selling for on the secondary market. For the older stuff, you can find just about anything on ebay if you're patient and set up a saved search to notify you when it gets posted.

In my opinion - Group of 7 - will be nice to start with.
Limited mintage, popular, but available - I think it will be the good choice.

I collect everything with a face value of $30 or under. :-) There are great series in every denomination. You really REALLY need to focus if you're working within budget constraints. I started with the silver dollars myself but also really enjoyed working through the SMLs and there are many beautiful $20s. DON'T buy NCLTs an 'investments'. Sure some of them go up in value. Some of them might even maintain that value for a few years before declining again. My personal opinion is you have better odds of making money at the casino. Buy them because you like them, you find them beautiful pieces of art, you enjoy the connection to the historical event they commemorate or whatever. If they have some value left when your kids inherit them that's just a bonus.

Silver dollars are a nice series to collect. Long-running series that can be purchased for close to melt value (many at 50% silver means cheap!)
