As you can see from the obverse pic that the opposite side of the penny is weak on the front but not on the back.

may have been done with a vice or it was used to level a really heavy table

I agree with Night Hawk, looks like it was clipped by a train. I use to do this as a kid (don't shoot me LMC collectors). It is funny, cause even though you place the coin on the center of the track, it doesn't guarantee a direct hit. The vibrations from the track probably wiggle it to one side.

But what is fun is putting a small stack of pennies on the track. Or better yet, a multi-denominational stack. ;D
