Hello,

I am looking for some insight on this 1888 Canada Large Cent, with a stamp that reads G.W.P. I am not sure what this is, maybe a counter stamp?

Any thoughts?

I can't comment specifically on this counterstamp, but counterstamps on large cents are not that uncommon. I think people in Victorian times occasionally used them as advertising tokens. I have a couple with counterstamps different than yours.

This site lists GWP Jackson as a merchant that has counterstamped coins. Didn't find anything on that merchant though.
