I think that people pay way too much attention to the ban on melting pennies. Whether you can melt them or not, they are still valuable. I made a short video to address this.

Well done.

I have been saying this here for a while, not being able to melt cents is irrelevant.

The melt ban will hold back large scale investors, hedge funds, etc. Granted there are those already banking on the future of copper that are in these positions, but similar to silver, unless there are refineries that are loading up the 10 ton crucibles with truckloads of pennies you won't see "...And Copper Too" added to the "We Buy Gold" places. I agree with your video 100% and I am selling my modest finds on ebay, but until the public in general is inundated with "copper penny fever," we will only see small time hoarding/trading. The chain reaction starts with a change in the law.

The opportunity is now to amass your fortune while 15-20% of each bank roll is ripe with copper!

Lonz, I think there are a lot of misconceptions surrounding copper hoarding.

First, the melt ban has not held back large scale investors from getting into hoarding at all ends of it. Brinks is currently sorting copper for one wealthy investor, to the tune of $5 million in copper cents over the next year and a half. There are also a number of groups that use industrial sorters and sell copper at all amounts. And then there's the smaller scale sorters and even hand sorters.

Second, there is small and a lot of large scale hoarding going on right now.

Third, if the law were to change. You can say goodbye to small time hoarding. Brinks can effectively cull 100% of the copper they receive simply by flicking a switch. And you can bet this would happen when the melt ban is lifted. Whether because they are paid by a private investor or partner with a smelter. Much like when Jackson Metals was doing this leading up to the 2006 melt ban. Either way that would mean all zinc boxes at your local banks pretty soon after the ban is lifted.

Unless you have access to thousands of dollars of pennies, the time and finances to sort and hold. It's going to be more of a way to retain your assets rather than make a fortune. Say you end up amassing $100k of copper cents, you don't know when the melt ban is going to be lifted. That's a lot of money to sit on for the possibility of earning say 2x face at some unknown future date.

It may or my not be that simple (I do not know), but they most certainly can be that effective (I do believe).

Nice job. Most people will still think we are weird. For me, now that my wife understands the value of coins since I have made some money selling coins for metal value on ebay, she doesn't mind me hoarding a bit :)

as far as a "fortune" goes... I wasn't pointing to my small sales on ebay... was referring to the "industrial sized coin sorters" - that I wish I was in a position to control and seize on this unique opportunity (at least in my lifetime).

The revenue generated from my copper sales covers my rear end from the "Why are you spending so much on your hobby?" question from the Mrs. Oh and gas $ too!

I simply enjoy going through countless rolls of cents, finding something of value that 99.9% of the people who have owned the same coin, never took even a second to glance at it.

It's fascinating.
