I picked this up yesterday. It was slabbed and graded by NNC, but has since been cracked out, like just about all of my other slabbed stuff. What grade do you suspect it had been given? You can see the overdate easily on the date.

Take Care

NNC? AU55 or 58. Reality? EF40, obverse-limited. Can you educate me regarding the weakness of the reverse strike? It seems to me that both wings ought to show equal wear if it were circulation wear, but I should think E PLURIBUS UNUM would be weaker if it were strike-related. Either way, a definite keeper and one I'd be proud to have.

What am I missing here?

Well SuperDave, the weakness near the arrows and (rt) wing are part of the coins attribution. It's the result of a lapped die according to the Overton reference. There is a O-101A variety which shows even greater weakness in these areas.

I hope this is what your referring to.

That NNC grade is surprisingly close to accurate. I was thinking EF-45 before I read the rest of the thread. Nice coin!

That was exactly what I was looking for, Ben. The areas that looked worn were at odds with the sharp quality of the rest of the face; it didn't seem like wear for that reason.

I gotta get me a book. Then again, if I do I'll buy more Busties, and I can't afford them unless I give something else up.

Decisions, decisions.

Typically, NNC grading is quite poor, and rarely do I see nice coins in their holders (virtually never, actually). My biggest concern would be that there is something wrong with the coin that is not apparent in the image (whether by accident or not...). Based on the image as shown, it does look like a nice coin.
