Greetings all;

Have recently found this medal during a metal detecting session and would like some information on same. I've tried to source information on same but have come up with a blank.

French-Medal-Challenge.

I've managed to clean it up as it was really filthy and it has come up very nicely. I reckon It is made of bronze - though with it's pinkish hue it could even be copper.

Would like to know just what it is and (perhaps) some information on occasions when it would normally be presented.

Does anyone recognise what this could be?

look forward to all responses with bated breath.

Cheers

Chris D

This commemorative refers to the July Revolution when the Bourbon King, Charles X was overthrown and replaced by Louis-Phillipe of the House of Orleans.
I can't read the name of the medallist, but a close up of the signature would help identify the issuer.

The artist was apparently a man named Dusseaut. See the bottom of page 631 (and top of p. 632) here: http://books.google.de/books?id=HAA...ante&f=false
He is also mentioned as the designer of that medal in this book: http://books.google.de/books?id=WYP...ille&f=false

"PS" - The British Museum apparently has such a medal (or a very similar one) too. No image, but here you go: http://www.britishmuseum.org/resear...urrentPage=1

Greetings again;

My thanks to all who have responded. In view of the last response (Christian) I have sent an e mail to the British Museum along with the photo for verification.

Hopefully they'll respond also.

Thanks again
